New Baby Gift Baskets
The choices you have when buying a gift for a new baby are overwhelming if you are not sure what someone needs, already has, or perhaps could do without. One great idea could be to put together new baby gift baskets when people you know and love have babies. These can be a lot of fun, but they can also be hard to figure out. You want to fill your baskets with useful items that parents are going to use and to skip the things that are pretty neat, but are not at all practical and will end up at the bottom of a drawer. Luckily, there are many great things out there that parents always need that you can include.
When you are putting together new baby gift baskets, remember that the majority of the things new parents get are for newborns. That means that though gifts for the baby once they are three, six or nine months old are great, they are not as numerous. You have to choose things that are going to be very useful or they may be just one more of a thing they already have. Don’t forget about mom and dad when you are putting together your baskets either.
One important part of new baby gift baskets are the baskets that you choose. Just because they are called gift baskets does not mean you have to use a basket. If you do, you can use a small wicker laundry basket that the parents can use for something else. You can also get a small bathtub to fill with gifts or you could get anything else that would be useful now or as the baby grows. There are some decorative baskets that will work well, but are not always as practical. Being practical is only one option though, so do what you think is best.
One thing people always put in new baby gift baskets would be newborn size diapers. This is great, but it can also be a problem. Many people give diapers to new parents, and they choose to give the newborn size. The problem in this is that most babies only wear these for a week or two, and some larger babies start out right in size one. This could mean your gift of newborn size diapers are unusable. If you know they had a large shower, go for size one or two in diapers. Don’t forget things they will use a lot of like diaper rash creams or ointments. Those are always useful.
Things like bottles and pacifiers may seem like logical choices for new baby gift baskets, but that is not always a good idea. There are many different and specialize bottles and pacifiers on the market, and unless you know what the new parents are going to use, you may very well buy the wrong kind of each and those items will never be used. On the other hand, if you know they are using a rather expensive bottle, getting them a few would be a great gift, as they may not have as many of them as they wish. It depends on how well you know the recipients.
Other useful items to include in new baby gift baskets might include wipes (get the gentle and for sensitive skin type), bibs with cute sayings, wash clothes, samples of powders, lotions, and shampoos, and baby body washes. If a mom is breastfeeding, a box of storage bags is a good idea, or a can of powder formula (if you know what she is using) is great for those that choose not to or can not breastfeed. Anything they are going to use and replace a lot as their baby grows is a great and welcome addition to any gift basket for newborns.
